INTERNSHIPS

The Bootstrap can potentially help with Internships!

Central Wyoming Students are often looking for opportunities to acquire experience.  They may have classroom experience and are interested in learning more in the workplace.  Oftentimes they can bring in interest, curiosity, and a desire to jump in.  Besides the valuable experience, the students can be compensated by grant funds available through the Bootstrap.

Businesses in our local ecosystem face a variety of challenges.  Sometimes, internships are a great way of helping solve problems.  This can include addressing special projects, opening up new product or service lines, or helping provide labor to keep up with customer demands.

This is also a great opportunity for small businesses to “try before they buy”.  This allows businesses to work with interns and see if they are a good fit with their business.  Sometimes this leads to full or part-time work opportunities after the internship which benefits both the business and the students.

One recent example is CWC Student Ben Nelson.  He was taking some business classes and was interested in the idea of having a food truck.  Through connections with the Bootstrap Collaborative, Ben was able to work with a local food truck here in Fremont County and learn about that business.  His part-time internship worked with his fall 2023 school schedule and provided invaluable experience about this line of work.

CWC student Jordan Hanway worked alongside Director of Operations Cherokee Brown with the Wind River Community Alliance for her internship.  She attended classes and helped create surveys/intakes for a new class.  In addition, she worked on a special program called “Adopt a Grandparent” to focus more on tribal elders.
