Internship Spotlight – Stanley at The Bootstrap Collaborative

From March to May, Stanley completed an internship at The Bootstrap Collaborative, focusing mainly on event management. Over the course of nearly three months, he gained hands-on experience in organizing events, coordinating tasks, and working with a team under real deadlines.

In his own words, Stanley shared: “I learned a lot of useful things during my internship at Bootstrap. My personal highlight was the Startup Challenge night. After all the preparation, seeing the project in action was very cool and I think it was a success.”

The internship gave him insight into how much planning goes into events and showed him the value of teamwork, communication, and flexibility. For Stanley, it was not only a chance to develop practical skills but also a memorable step in his professional journey.

Internship Spotlight – CWC Student Ben Nelson Explores the Food Truck Business

Ben Nelson, a business student at Central Wyoming College, took a big step toward turning his interests into real-world experience. While taking business classes in fall 2023, Ben became curious about the idea of owning a food truck.

Through connections with The Bootstrap Collaborative, Ben landed a part-time internship with a local food truck in Fremont County. The schedule fit well with his school commitments and gave him a firsthand look at what it takes to run a mobile food business.

From day-to-day operations to customer service and logistics, Ben learned how this fast-paced industry works. The experience gave him a clearer understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the field and helped him decide if this path is right for him.

This internship is a great example of how students can explore their interests through local partnerships and gain skills that support their goals.

Internship Spotlight – Jordan Hanway Supports Community Programs

Jordan Hanway, a student at Central Wyoming College, recently completed an internship with the Wind River Community Alliance, working closely with Director of Operations Cherokee Brown. Her role gave her the chance to contribute to meaningful community efforts while continuing her studies.

During her internship, Jordan helped create surveys and intake forms for a new class, gaining experience in program development and outreach. One of the highlights of her work was contributing to a special initiative called “Adopt a Grandparent”, a program designed to support and connect with tribal elders.

Through this hands-on experience, Jordan not only strengthened her technical and organizational skills but also made a real impact in her community. Her work is a strong example of how student internships can support both learning and local engagement.

Internship Spotlight – Shay Chand Gains Real-World Market Research Experience with Direct Haven Health Systems

CWC student Shay Chand recently completed an internship with Direct Haven Health Systems LLC, focusing on market research. This was Shay’s first time working in a real-world setting, applying research skills outside the classroom.

At the beginning, Shay felt nervous about taking on something new. But with guidance from the Direct Haven team, the transition was smooth. Over the course of the internship, Shay learned how to organize and analyze market data effectively—skills that will be valuable for future projects and career steps.

Shay also gained insight into the direct primary care model and came away as a strong supporter of the practice. The experience made a lasting impact, both professionally and personally.

This internship gave Shay practical knowledge, built confidence, and sparked continued interest in innovative healthcare models.

Internship Spotlight – CWC Student Completes Groundbreaking Internship at WRDF

Hyrum Rich, a student from Central Wyoming College, completed a successful summer internship with the Wind River Development Fund (WRDF) in Fort Washakie. As WRDF’s first intern, he gained hands-on experience in community lending and economic development on the Reservation. Hyrum brought a strong background in economics and international service, and will study at Northwestern University this fall. This internship was made possible through CWC’s partnership with local organizations and the Bootstrap Collaborative.

Internship Spotlight – Leighann Turns Internship into Innovation at Maker Space 307

Leighann Hernandez completed a one-year internship at Maker Space 307 through Central Wyoming College and the Bootstrap Collaborative, supported by a USDA RISE grant. As an Automotive Technology student, she brought strong technical skills, creativity, and problem-solving to a wide range of hands-on projects—from restoring century-old furniture to using advanced tools like 3D printers and laser cutters. Her ability to take initiative and learn new skills made her an invaluable part of the team. This internship is a great example of how collaboration between students, mentors, and local programs creates real-world learning and lasting impact.
